Description[?]:

The Armed Forces are obviously composed of three different services, army, air force and navy, however they are recruited from diverse areas. Currently we reckon the armed forces have a total strength of 1,130,000. Much of this is of poor quality.

--Recruitment--

1) Knights of St John and other assorted Military Orders – various units are formed from elements of the Knights and other Military Orders. All officers senior NCO’s are officially Knights, however junior NCO’s and other ranks are not. All recruits have to be Terran Catholic, and are largely recruited from Deltaria, and increasingly Jelbania, Selucia and Tokundi. Officers are often detached from the core formations of the other units mentioned below.

2) Foreign ‘Mercenaries’ – various units are raised from volunteers from foreign nations. Motivated to a certain extent by financial rewards, they are split into two categories. Some are recruited as military experts, specialising in certain fields, and they are paid handsomely. Others are just non-Terran Catholic adventurers, motivated by various factors, some are escaping problems, others are ex-military, and some are just psychopaths. Strong elements within the air force and certain elite army units.

3) Native Auxiliaries – the inheritance from the old ‘Maximilian Industries’ security forces. Largely Muslim or atheist, there is a strong attempt to convert the auxiliaries to the One True Faith, indeed new recruits are expected to convert in return for citizenship rights. They form poor quality units, largely used for keeping internal order, in the police, or line regiments.

4) Convicts – the Black Legions. Convicts from Deltarian and Kafuristani jails, released on the condition that they serve in the Black Legions. They are offered military service and conversion to the One True Church, an opportunity to redeem themselves and their souls in the eyes of the Lord. Martyrs go straight to heaven, avoiding the eternal damnation that their prison sentences would otherwise have led to. They are highly motivated religiously fanatical shock troops.

--Land Forces-- (630,000 men combat element. Support services fluctuate)

-Military Orders- (Thirteen Brigades) (65,000, plus officers and NCO’s on detachment to other formations (90,000)

Knights of St James (Ten Brigades)

- Darali Brothers of the Sword
- Doron Akigo Brothers of the Sword
- Ushalande Brothers of the Sword
- Alazinder Brothers of the Sword
- Dissuwa Brothers of the Sword
- Tokundian Brothers of the Sword
- Selucian Brothers of the Sword
- Artanian Brothers of the Sword
- Jelbek Brothers of the Sword
- Majatran Brothers of the Sword

Knights of St George (One Brigade)

Order of Sacrifice and Pain (One Brigade)

Order of St Jarilo (One Brigade)

Order of St Parnum (One Brigade)

-Foreign Volunteers- (Six Brigades) (30,000)

The foreign volunteers are organised into six brigade formations

1st Artanian Legion
2nd Artanian Legion
Legion of the Islands
Seleyan Legion
1st Majatran Legion (Pntek)
2nd Majatran Legion (Jelbek)
3rd Majatran Legion (Solentian)

-Native Auxiliaries- (c330,000)

Native auxiliaries, officered by Knights, form the bulk of the land forces. Arranged in a variety of army and police units. Officially there are twenty combat ready brigades, (c100,000 men, largely recruited from native Catholics), which means that 230,000 men are in irregular units, with low morale.

-Black Legions- (100,000)

Approximately twenty brigades worth of shock troops, recruited from the convict population, with the express aim of providing cannon fodder. Led by Knights, fanatically loyal to the Church, there one hope of salvation.

-Special Forces- (30,000)

Organised into three branches. Vikings, Vampires and Werewolves.

-Home Guard- (currently 50,000, may increase to 250,000)

To be raised via a method of conscription from all Deltarian and Jelbek speakers in Kafuristan, or anyone of the Terran Catholic faith. Will expand once immigration kicks in. Basically to be used as a police force, to control the native population. An irregular form of oppression.

--Naval and Air Forces--

Perhaps another 350,000 men are included in the Navy and Air Forces. The Navy and Air Force are not considered of as much significance as the army, but are also largely attuned to the army’s aim of internal security. Within the Navy there are 30,000 Marines, organised into six Brigades. Officers within these two services are largely Knights, however a few foreign experts, and natives from the old air force are still present. Naval ships are often outdated, and air craft are largely used in counter insurgency.

--Intelligence Agencies and State Security --(Maybe another 250,000)

This branch consists of a variety of units, largely operated by the Military Orders, but including native police units and intelligence branches left over. Used in a variety of roles, from counter insurgency, to operating the Inquisition.

--Aims of the Security Forces--

The primary aim is to maintain internal security, through fighting the insurgencies, through rooting out heresy, and by offering a degree of protection to the borders. Lightly armoured and highly mobile formations are the norm in the army, may units are decidedly dodgy, but the Knights core formations are the equal of elite paratroop or commando units from around Terra.

Random fact: Google Translate can help you with those language translations: https://translate.google.com/

Random quote: "A democracy that does not allow limits is not a democracy. Just as a limitless freedom is not freedom, but prevarication. Indeed, any theory of freedom worthy of this name is first of all a limit theory. If we extend the unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not willing to defend a tolerant society against the attacks of the intolerants, then the tolerants will be destroyed and the tolerance with them! Because, I ask to myself and ask you, given a certain system that we call democratic, which is today the best possible system to allow everyone to live freely and to be able to express their own thoughts, how can the same system admit attacks against its integrity? How can a system refuse the principle of the self-preservation? For this reason, to suppress the apologetics of thalerrism, it's for this reason that the exaltation of exegetes, principles, facts or methods of Thallerism and its anti-democratic aims does not constitute a violation of the freedom of manifestation of thought, but, on the contrary, the celebration of that freedom. The protection of the first premise on which a modern democratic system is based. And this premise must be safeguarded also and above all against itself and its abuses." ~ Malik Astori, Leadership of Liberty and Progress (Istalia)
