MessageRt Hon Melanie Thompson MP, CLP Leader and Prime Minister:

Mr Speaker, I have come to the decision that now is the right time for a general election. I am extremely reluctant to criticise my predecessor, Duke Major, due to his experience and leadership of the country over the last few years. However, I disagreed with the position that he left this party in. His decision to introduce major reforms and postpone elections despite an unrepresentative chamber was, in my opinion, a big mistake. However, it was a policy that he had committed the party to and, as such, at first, I was not in a position to overturn this. However, Mr Speaker, the current situation tells us that this policy needs to change, and was never a viable option. My personal thoughts are that Mr Major was concerned about his legacy. Due to circumstances out of his control, he never managed to introduce legislation that he would have liked to, his time and energy being devoted to the terrorist attacks. However, I would much rather that CLP reforms were long-lasting, and their legitimacy not doubted.

Mr Speaker, I have no doubts that, because of our delay in calling this election, the CLP will be punished, being seen as enemies of democracy. Let me remind the people of Hutori, and members opposite, that the CLP's two commitments have always been to liberty and democracy, and our record shows this. I hope that the leader of the URR-M retracts his comments, and looks at the evidence before him.

Mr Speaker, I am sure that members of this house will forgive Duke Major for his error, and look forward to a bright and peaceful future.

Message[OOC: I didn't realise that the old call for early elections was still open...otherwise I would have made this statement there, and changed the CLP's vote there. I hope that this doesn't confuse the system or anything...?!]
