Message | The Prime Minister: Mr Speaker, this bill is not quite so bad as other trade union reform proposals that we have seen. Article III, for one, should be introduced rapidly. Mr Speaker, could I suggest that the republicans view our Right to Strike Act (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=272414) which sets out the categories of workers that are defined as "critical to society". I hope that they would agree that these workers should never be out on strike, and, indeed, upon talking to these professionals, they do not desire the right, out of a sense of duty. Mr Speaker, this party could never support Article I. Trade unions exist to protect the interests of their own members, not the members of others. Trade unionists should not be out on strike unless it concerns their own lives. Could I suggest, Mr Speaker, that the party introduces Article III separately. It is unlikely to receive the support of some of the other parties, but will certainly receive our full backing. |

Message | Mme Prime Minister, the question should not be whether they DESIRE to strike but whether they NEED to. A strike is never a desired outcome, as it means all other channels have been exhausted. But the right to strike should not be made illegal for certain critical groups. The groups outlined in the RSA are all groups that do a public service (one crucial one, might we note, is not even considered labor in the same sense as the others by most of our subjects); as long as they continue to provide a modicum of service to those who require it why should they be denied the rights of collective bargaining? |

Message | While we realize art. 2 is not necessarily the best for ease of collective action, the years and years of abysmal voting results among the subjects of Hutori lead us to believe voting is a right we must take for ourselves starting at even the smallest levels. |
