Message | The Prime Minister: Mr Speaker, given the almost inevitable certainty of the failure of the existing Cabinet proposal, I would like to make this proposal in order that a new government may be formed. May I remind honourable members of this House that, should no government be able to be formed, then the existing government remains. It is therefore in the interests of this House to be able to form a solid coalition so that no arguments over legitimacy can be made. For the second time in our history, we find ourselves no longer the majority party. It is, of course, a great pity for the party, and a great pity for me personally. We have enjoyed a great spell at the top of Hutorian politics, with the exception of a brief interlude, and it is somewhat remarkable that we were born out of nothing, and were elected time and time again by the Hutorian people. That is a record that we most certainly can be proud of, if also a little surprised! I can confirm that I intend to continue to lead the Conservative-Libertarian Party and hope to take it back to glory. Forgive me for expressing a note of pessimism, but I have always been as honest I could be...nakedly honest, some might say...and it would not surprise me if our role now turned to being a minority party, fighting for key values that are often neglected by other parties. We continue to believe in the things we always did, and will continue to fight for liberty and democracy. Mr Speaker, whilst I could try to form a coalition with myself as head, it has always been the belief of myself, and of the party as a whole, that the party with the greatest number of seats has a right to attempt to form a coalition and lead a government. I would therefore like to propose this to the UFC. The CLP and CEP have great experience of working in government together, and, whilst differences have always existed, on key issues, we have been able to co-operate for the good of Hutori. We know that under the leadership of the UFC, we will be able to do the same. I am, of course, aware, that the UFC was formed in opposition to the CLP's leadership, and we respect that. However, there is much that we can agree on. Civil liberties, for example, have always been a concern of the CLP, and we know that the same can be said of the UFC. The CEP also vote progressively on such issues. Let a protection of civil liberties in this uncertain climate, where there exists a party motivated by fascist ideals, united this government and allow it to defend the Hutorian people's cherished rights. Devolution, economics and foreign policy may divide us, but on this issue, we will stand united. |

Message | Mr. Speaker: The United Front for Change would like to commend the Conservative-Libertarian Party's humility and grace in this time of transition. The UFC echoes the CLP's commitment to allowing the party with the majority of seats to take the position as leader of Hutorian government. It is a clear reflection of the mandate of the people. The Hutorian people have embraced change in this past election and so with a new government, change will come. It is true that the UFC and the CLP have had major differences in the past. In fact, the UFC was formed not long ago to protest the positions of the CLP. Those differences continue to this day. However, it is with great pride that the UFC encourages all parties to find common ground so that we can move our nation forward. Our chief priorities shall be protecting and extending civil liberties; reducing the size of government and improving its efficiency; and encouraging international cooperation and world peace. With this coalition government, the nation's call for true multi-partisanship shall be delivered. |
