| Although this act of ours was shot down the last time we proposed it, we thought to reintroduce it with the new balance in Parliament. We have several reasons for wanting a six-month term of mandatory civilian service. Not only will it help the government to complete new public projects like the arcologies, it will also be good for our young people to get a chance to put their experiences and skills into use immediately after completing their schooling. Mandatory service will make them more employable and more productive members of the economy in the long run as well. |

Current: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve either a term in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service, at their option.
Proposed: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve a term of civilian national service.
