Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2136
Description[?]:
We wish to avoid companies or other entities falsely proclaiming themselves to be a religion in order to be tax-exempt. Therefore, we propose this bill. Recognition of a religion: Applications can be filed through the Finance Department. Finance Department agents would then meet with those who have filed applications for interviews and visits to houses of worship to determine whether it truly is a religion. |

Taxation of religious institutions.
Old value:: No religions are taxed.

Message | At this point, the Anarch Anakrousite Shatter feels it is outside the scope of government, to decide what a 'real' religion is. |

Message | The RLP would need to see examples of what would constitute Recognition before we could consider this bill. Our initial response is to oppose the government determination of a real religion, but we do recognize the potential for abuse. |

Message | The Sacred Order Faction would like to point out that, their OWN religious organisation (the Clerical wing of the Sacred Order) is not recognised as one of the 'official' religions of Likatonia. However, while the Sacred Order has no churches, preferring solitary worship, we feel that they SHOULD have access to the same tax protocols as any other religion, if they ever decided to go 'overground'. |

Message | We feel torn on this issue. The current system could lead to abuses by organisations wishing to avoid tax, however the proposed sysytem could lead to abuses by future governments that wish to bankrupt relgions that they dislike and do not wish to recognise. |
