MessageThe World Wide Human Rights agreement doesn't limit our legislature's scope of action in any area where we would like to see fundamental change.

MessageSo women, let's face it aren't as physically strong as men, should be doing the same dangerous jobs as our men?

Even though we'd like to think we're beyond it this isn't a perfect world, homosexuals openly serving in our military is creating a huge problem as far as unit cohesion is concerned. Would you want to take a shower in a open shower with a person you knew was a homosexual? Knowing the whole time they could be thinking about taking advantage of you in that situation. Yes I'll agree that it's not the case all time but we can't afford to sacrifice any unit cohesion because we want to appear "progressive." We should not allow open homosexuality in our armed forces.

MessageNobody is forcing women into the dangerous jobs, but they should have the same right to do them. If they are fit to do the job, why should they have no right to it just because they're women.

And as to the issue of homosexuality in the army: what the New Age is bringing forward as an 'argument' is merely pandering to prejudices and clichés about homosexuals.
How does repression and forcing people to deny an important part of their personality help unit cohesion? Homosexuality won't go away just becuase you're not allowed to admit to it. Supressing open homosexuality in the armed forces only creates an atmosphere of mutual distrust within the units. Wouldn't you feel better with feeling that the person next to you is homosexual rather than having to suspect the whole unit of being possibly homosexual? That is, if it bothers you at all that anyone is gay.

MessageIt doesn't bother me personally whether an individual is "gay." There are individuals within our culture that are bothered very deeply about the issue and having those people within our ARMED forces is an issue I think we can agree doesn't need to be brought to the forefront with fratricide. A very real possibility if we continue to allow this openness about sexuality.

As to the issue of women fighting along side men. Just because one thinks they are fit to do the job doesn't mean they are actually capable to do so. Just because you may think you're superman doesn't really mean you're faster than a speeding bullet. I have no issue with women filling every position in the military except combat roles. Every one is different and we have no way to simulate a true combat situation to see how everyone is going to act. Women are quicker to panic and don't handle the stress as well as men that's almost as plain as it gets.

(All role-playing it doesn't actually reflect me thoughts on the idea)

MessageWhat we as Aldegarians should aim is for a society that judges individuals based on their personal capabilities. We should not base our decisions on gender, sex, sexual orientation, race, nor the categorising stereotypes that surround them. It might be true that scientifically and statistically speaking women are physically weaker than men, but when we come to look at the smaller pictures, there are women far fitter than many men to serve in combats (even though we are firmly opposed to militarism). As in regard with homosexuality in the military, we believe that we have to learn to accept differences in sexual orientations (amongst other things). By forbidding gays to enter the force, we are nothing but stigmatising human beings that do not wish for anything better.

*Don't mean that you are, just the New Age.

MessageThe issue is not whether anyone THINKS they are fit to do a certain job, but whether they in fact are capable to do it. And we shouldn't judge anyone incapable from the start just because of their gender. In that respect we agree with the Green Party's position about judging individuals based on their individual capabilities.

And as to the issue of homophobia within the armed forces, we cannot see how stigmatising homsexuals would help the situation in any way. Just as homosexuality won't cease to exist just because you're not allowed to talk about it, homophobia won't go away either. Creating a situation where repressed homosexuality is pitted against underlying homophobia is bound to lead to an explosion at some point, rather more so than a situation where things are out in the open and can be dealt with accordingly.
