Message | Madam Speaker, the URR mislead the House. This bill will simply serve to minimise choice and responsibility. As it stands, parents can choose where to send their children, and many parents will make that choice on the discipline policies of the respective schools. If all schools in that local area are obliged to have the same discipline levels, then the parent has no choice whatsoever, beyond moving out of that locality. Madam Speaker, this bill, if passed, would take powers away from the parent and hand it to council bureaucrats. |

Message | Madame Speaker, in many rural councils and in many of our largest cities there is no choice spread of schools for parents to send their children to. As it stands, individual schools have no accountability to parents – due to the constant overcrowding of classes year after year, even schools with the strictest punishments will have a surplus of students. The status quo is intolerable! |
