Bill: Torture Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Christian Democrat Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2899
Description[?]:
This has already been suggested by the Throne of Immeressen, as part of a much wider act which contained bills we could not agree with and so we had to vote against the act. Torture is a complete denial of human rights, it is inhumane and disgusting. We maintain that every individual has the right to remain silent and there can be no guarantee that innocent suspects are not being subject to this degrading treatment. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The use of torture for obtaining information.
Old value:: It is at the discretion of the police officer to torture suspects for information.
Current: Torture is never allowed.
Proposed: Torture is never allowed.
Debate
These messages have been posted to debate on this bill:
Date | 03:15:56, February 24, 2010 CET | From | Throne of Immeressen | To | Debating the Torture Act |
Message | We agree (since it's in our own agenda) with the CDP, but for different reasons. The 'right to remain silent' is irrelevant - torture simply doesn't produce reliable information. If you're going to commit warcrimes, you might as well at least get good intelligence from it. |

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with. |
