Message | Whaling should be differentiated with fishing, because it is totally unnecessary. |
Date | 11:23:13, March 05, 2010 CET | From | Green Party of Aldegar | To | Debating the Regulated Whaling Act of 2903 |
Message | Whales are, despite being creatures of the sea, mammals, not fish. We do not think that not differentiating whaling from fishing is a good idea. Unlike fish, for example, whales tend to be more solitary, thus the ways through which whales are caught are different to fish. |

Message | Yes, whales are mammals not fish, we thank the Green Party of Aldegar to give the People's Assembly a fact that I believe all of us know. A term is only a term. What do we formally call catching crabs or other non-fish sea creatures? Crabbing? Shrimping? Which I believe those terms are not used for the act of sea creature catching. The term fishing is used as a collective term, and includes mollusks, crustaceans and any aquatic animal which can be harvested from the sea. The term whaling comes up as different from fishing as components in our society felt that the whales, not the salmon, crab, or shrimp, needs to be protected. However, protection of an animal is deemed necessary for those who are endangered. As there are different species of whales, why cannot we allow those species which are not endangered, to be used as food and oil for the people? Those species of whales which are endangered will be protected by our law on endangered species while those that are not will be protected with the quotas. The Green Party of Aldegar mentioned that the ways through which whales are caught are different to fish. Allowing commercial whaling will not open up the use of underwater bombs or any form which upsets the sea's environment thus there should not be a problem. |

Message | The Aldegarian culture has never relied much on fishing whales (yes, you read what you read). It has also proven difficult to just fish certain species of whales (that being said, even the least endangered species are still not safe from extinction). In addition, the Green Party would like to make it clear to the CHP that we are also for the banning of 'normal' fishing and hunting of all kinds of animals. We do not deem protection is necessary only for endangered species, but all species, our own inclusive. |
