MessageRt Hon Margaret Moore MP, Finance Secretary:

Madam Speaker, this is an ambitious spending plan which will see taxpayer spending reduced by 100,000,000,000HLR. Madam Speaker, this will greatly benefit the taxpayer and make our spending more productive.

Madam Speaker, the biggest cuts have fallen on the Prime Minister's Office, where the budget has been reduced by half. My Rt Hon friend the Prime Minister recently announced his intention to take a salary cut. His Most Royal and Serene Majesty also requested that spending on the royal family and royal properties was reduced, both helping to fund this cut. Furthermore, Madam Speaker, the number of advisers to the Prime Minister's Office has been cut, another step allowing us to take this greatly needed cut.

Madam Speaker, the Treasury has also seen its budget cut in half. Madam Speaker, reductions in the number of staff and the number of 'fact-finding' expeditions have helped see this budget cut. Madam Speaker, over time I expect to have this budget slimmed again. Madam Speaker, a cut has also been made to the Foreign Office. All diplomats and ambassadors have taken a slight salary cut, as has my Rt Hon friend, the Foreign Secretary. Madam Speaker, due to much of the maintenance work on our international embassies having been completed, a cut can therefore be expected in this department.

Madam Speaker, cuts have also had to have been made in the smaller departments of Science and Technology, Food and Agriculture and Trade and Industry. Madam Speaker, these cuts are largely efficiency savings that effect administrative issues rather than the front-line services that I know my Rt Hon colleagues are keen to save.

Madam Speaker, whilst this budget has allowed us to slash overall spending, it has also allowed us to increase spending in the most important departments. Madam Speaker, the Interior Office and the Ministry of Justice shall both receive increases in order to effectively fund our law and order system. Due to the military occupation of the Davronstani border, an increase was essential in the Ministry of Defence. Madam Speaker, the important departments of Health and Education have also seen increases, reflecting the deeply held conviction that a strong public input into these areas is essential. Finally, Madam Speaker, due to all of the above efficiency savings, extra money has been found for the Department of Environment and Tourism, ensuring that more money can be invested in important infrastructure pertaining to this frontier.

Madam Speaker, I commend this budget to the House.

Random fact: It usually takes up to an hour for election results to generate. During this time, the "Next Election" date is put forward a month, which is confusing. Do not worry! In a short time, the election result will generate and the "Next Election" date will then correct itself.
