Message | The proposed budget gives the very poor the opportunity to flourish and allows the rich to fill that gap without taxing them too much. |
Date | 21:03:11, March 14, 2010 CET | From | Liberal Democratic Party of Sekowo | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of February 2908 |
Message | Show with your actions, not with your words. This budget raises taxes across the board, affecting even those who can't afford basic necessities of life. The NCP's idea of helping the poor seems to be to take whatever little money they have, which is unfortunate. |

Message | No, if you would like to take the time to compare the current taxation policy and the one that we have proposed it will become obvious that in our proposed policy those on >5,000 SEK and >10,000 SEK will be taxed less (1% and 5%) compared to the current which is 9% for >30,000 SEK (recognising that > means everything up to/under). |

Message | OOC: OK...obviously we need some clarification here. When it says ">30,000", the variable is implied to be in front of the greater-than sign. That variable, of course, is the salary of the person. Therefore, the first tax bracket proposed says, quite literally, for amounts GREATER than 5000 but less than 10000 SEK, 1% should be deducted. It does not mean any amount LESS than 5000 SEK will be taxed. |

Message | OOC: Does anyone know how much 1 SEK is compared to, say, $1? |
Date | 21:49:16, March 14, 2010 CET | From | Liberal Democratic Party of Sekowo | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of February 2908 |
Message | Ratio of previous tax on poor to proposed tax on poor = 1% / 0% = undefined. In essence, the increase cannot be defined in terms of a real number. Why so committed to taxing the poor, when they desperately need the money? |

Message | OOC: It seems that you misunderstood my question, or were you replying to something else? I wondered what would be the exchange rate between the Sekowo and the American Dollar (if the Sekowo would exist in our world). Without knowing that, it is impossible to determine wether 5,000 SEK is a low income. And don't forget to prefix OOC to out-of-character messages. |

Message | OOC: I don't think the exchange rates are stated. I think we just assume that 1 SEK = 1 of our own national currecny, whether that be £ or $ etc. |

Message | OOC: OK. I've been assuming that 1 SEK = $1 |

Message | OOC: I was replying to the first statement; I did not see the other question until just now. Also, I was arguing IC, not OOC. Personally, I think the easiest way to decide all this is to put it in context of wages. For instance, wages only go up to around 75000 SEK it seems, so that would represent the upper or upper-upper class. Comparing that to a range associated the upper or upper-upper class in a RL country (say the U.S., though it doesn't have to be), we can determine the approximate exchange rate. |
