MessageMr Speaker, within weeks we see the first evidence of how this government is far from friendly towards the working classes. As it stands, the poorest in our society do not have to pay tax at all. Under this proposal, as soon as you earn 5,000HLR, which, to be honest, is a measly sum to live on, the government snatches some of that hard-earned money off you. Whilst the lowest earners see their tax bills rise, those that earn between 60,000-70,000HLR get a tax cut! Mr Speaker, this is inexplicable. Furthermore, the top band of income tax will raise relatively little money and it is thus hardly worthy of its own extra band.

Mr Speaker, this proposal simply indicates the inexperience of this government, its lack of preparation for government and its inherent opposition to the livelihoods of workers.

MessageI need to explain CLP that from 50.000 to 70.000 tax is 20%. Pay from 60.000-70.000 aren't tax free. I thought that you should know because You were leading this country for 10 years.

Second thing pay of 5.000 is not low pay. We here have problem because we don't know how high is inflation rate.
In normal situation pay of 5.000 is a average pay. This depend from country to country.
In this case we will suppose that average pay is 5.000 and it is enough for life of family with one children.

MessageMr Speaker, we did not say that 60,000-70,000HLR is tax free. We said that they have received a tax cut. Under the existing system they pay 20% and under this proposal, they will pay only 17%. It is of course interesting that government ministers receive a 67,500HLR salary, thus falling within this category. Perhaps this would be too cynical, however.

Mr Speaker, 5,000HLR is not much at all. It is probably the equivalent wage of a part-time supermarket worker working 12 hours, or 2 days, every week. Average pay is around 17,500-20,000HLR. As you say, "we should know", having led the country for so long.

Mr Speaker, it is interesting the the Progressive People's Forum has now changed their name to the "Hutori Labourists - Working Party". We understand that jumping into bed with the HNP does demonstrate a lack of progressive ideals, but quite how this budget demonstrates their commitment to the working classes is not at all clear.
