Bill: Capital Punishment for Adultery Repeal

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Liberal Intellectualism Front

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2910

Description[?]:

The death sentence is a disproportionate punishment to the actual crime in question. It may be reasonable to have capital punishment for murderers but adultery is a far cry from taking the life of another person. Furthermore, it is difficult to enforce a law against adultery (as it occurs in private life and evidence can be hard to come by), and testimonies can be easily manipulated or made-up. Thus, the likelihood of a man or woman being sentenced to death for a mundane crime such as adultery is higher than say, for being charged wrongly for murder. A civilised state such as the Federal Republic of Darnussia should therefore repeal the current law that adheres to capital punishment.

MessageWe dont currently apply the death penalty for adultry. Even though it is a capital crime, we do not use execution for capital crimes.

Current govt position on the death penalty:
"The death penalty is not applied, except for terrorism, treason and crimes against mankind"

MessageMy bad, a capital offence usually refers to the 'death penalty.' However, despite this not being the case I still believe adultery is not a serious offence in comparison to other crimes.
