MessageMr. Speaker,

In line with our policies with the nation of Selucia the Foreign Ministry has taken consideration of the international treaty recognizing Selucia as a Jesuit State. Given our governments formal policies on religious affairs and our long history as a secular state this treaty is politically challenging. If it was not for the current relations with Selucia the Foreign Ministry would not present this piece of legislation. However, as requested by our friends in Selucia the Foreign Ministry submits the treaty to the Directorate.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We agree with your assessment of this treaty as a challenge given the past and current policies towards religion in the Federation, and we respect the Foreign Ministry for putting it forward despite possible backlash. While it is the policy of the United Alliance that religion is foolish gobble-de-gook, we are reasonable and can find no reason why we should not recognize that Selucia is indeed a religious state. Therefore we will support this treaty. Thank You.

I Yield the Floor,
Armin Koert
United Alliance Education and Culture Minister
