Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The lyrics of the national anthem.
Old value:: I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love: The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
Current:
O'er azure skies, And emerald plains, Where freedom and justice prevail! With courage and strength, We'll fight to the end, For liberty in our land! From underneath the sky, From sea to sea, To city to city, Our banner raises high, For O'er the dark clouds, Nothing can remove the light on which Our nation stands! For child to child, And parent to parent, We fight to withstand, Those clouds O'er beyond, So we may have peace in our land! |
Proposed:
And the men who hold high places Must be the ones who start To mold a new reality Closer to the heart The blacksmith and the artist Reflect it in their art They forge their creativity Closer to the heart Philosophers and ploughmen Each must know his part To sow a new mentality Closer to the heart You can be the captain And I will draw the chart Sailing into destiny Closer to the heart |

Message | Mr Speaker, again, we oppose this anthem on the grounds that it extremely feudal in its tone. It suggests that the people of this country should be eternally divided based on the role that they 'must' play in society. |
