Bill: Equality of Oppertunity and Schools Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socialist Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2920

Description[?]:

In addition to the nationalisation of private schools we would:

We intend to create new well designed and attractive schools as studies show a good environment helps learning.

With the extra schools and investment in teacher recruitment we could achieve smaller class sizes

We would also build vocational colleges which people can go to if they feel the academic route is not for them. Students would be given the opportunity to transfer to these at 16.

We would also create Higher Education Colleges which would teach academic subjects but cater to students who prefer a college setting. Again transfer to these would be made at 16.

We would also create some specialist schools in which specific departments would receive extra funding. So students can develop their gifts to their full potential.

A transfer system would also be put in place so in the case of bullying or mishandling of care parents could switch their child's school as easily as possible

The creation of special needs schools so that children with special educational needs aren't left behind

MessageParents should have the choice of sending their students to private school. The Government has no right to come in and say no they have to go to the public school. Some students who rather go to private school and currently are able to are going to be forced to go to public school.

MessageWe resent the suggestion that it would be detrimental to the rich to go to a normal school. What private schools do is drive a chasm through Alorian society by allowing the rich to opt out of mixing with the so called 'lower' classes. It creates a disadvantage for the majority who attend state schools allowing universities and employers to discriminate. We in the ISA believe in a society in which an individual climbs as high as they can on their own merits, not on mummy and daddy's money.

It may limit the freedoms of the parents of the rich few but by not doing we are limiting the freedoms of the masses and robbing them of their opportunity to succeed.

MessageThe choice is not to just parents it is to the kids as well. Also, do not assume that parents have their kids go to a private school so they don't have to mix with the so called "lower" classes. Some might go to a private school because they are unable to work in a public school many reasons us in Parliament will not know of why.

We understand what you are saying but in the end, parents and kids should have a choice with the education they want.
