MessageFreedom of speech, as strange as it sounds, is as the law determines. For example, the old idea of yelling fire in crowded theater, the idea of slander and libel, lying under oath, or giving investigators false information - possibly even withholding information, are all examples of limitations of this 'freedom'.

That being said, freedom of speech should protect political speech. Speech that the government may have a direct reason to not want to have spoken or ideas conveyed should be at least partially protected. Since this does not limit nor restrict this type of speech, we do not see it as an infringement.

Anyone have any idea what the punishment is for not singing as a child? Prison? Deportation? Death?

I do pity them since it's a pretty long anthem - maybe only have them sing the first verse or so?

Sure. But we have determined within reason what can be done what is not appropiate. That has nothing to do with the law but with culture, our prevailing standards and values. We must learn pupils learn to think by themselves. So, if one doesn't want to sing the national anthem he/she should not be punished. Actually, what kind of punishment would be appropiate in the view of HO ?

Do you know them all by heart ? Why didn't the HO voted in favour of my earlier proposal to limit the verses of the anthem ?

MessageRCP. There nothing wrong with our patriotism, although we think we define it differently.

MessageIt's long, but by saying it is long is only an observation, not a criticism.. :)
