The People’s Party has been tough on crime, and will always be tough on crime. We believe that anyone accused of a crime or convicted should have their DNA on record. Just because you were accused and never convicted does not mean you weren’t guilty. |

Message | The AFP view the proposed legislation as an invasive assault on basic personal freedom and privacy. We can see the obvious benefit of a DNA database of convicted criminals, but the concept of a national database recording the DNA of innocent or potentially innocent people and retaining it for an indefinite period is disturbing. It also lacks any clear purpose. For these reasons, we oppose this measure. |

Message | AFP, the reason that we propose this is that people who are accused sometimes guilty but either it get off because of a technicality, good lawyer, or not enough evidence. Plus also if a crime is committed and the DNA does not come from a convicted person database it might come up in a database of someone accused. It is not imposing taking the DNA of every citizen which is something we oppose, but this takes us in a right direction to fight crime. |
