MessageSorry, I agree with anyone's right to join into a commited relationship. However, that relationship does not need the title of marriage. Regardless, if two individuals stay together for years, sharing their lives, their bills, their home..., then they earn the right to the same benefits that any other couple receive. This includes offical recognition through tax breaks, combined health insurance, deed/will rights and so forth.

MessageAlso, we're talking of civil mariage contract. As for the word mariage, I don't think its a TM of the mainstream religious church. However, the law protected by the treaty will not forces religious institution to celebrate mariage incompatible with their beliefs.
