Message | As a sovereign nation we should reserve the decision with which other nation we want to have diplomatic relations. Abandoning that ability is extremely silly, and this act should be renamed Abandonment of Any Form of Sensible Foreign Policy Act. |
Date | 12:19:24, April 27, 2010 CET | From | Green Party of Aldegar | To | Debating the Open and Independent Foreign Policy Act of 2928 |
Message | For an honest and open foreign relations, we have to first and foremost be open with other states. For all we know, all states (like humans) are fundamentally good. |

Message | And should any state not be behaving in that fundamentally good way, we now have no way of doing anything. Freezing diplomatic relations can be an important tool in such a situation, but we can't do it any more as long as any state can open and maintain an embassy anyway. |

Message | Carefully note the 'may ESTABLISH'. |

Message | I have. They may establish. No contact with the Foreign Office necessary. And once they've established an embassy, what then? |
Date | 12:42:36, April 29, 2010 CET | From | Green Party of Aldegar | To | Debating the Open and Independent Foreign Policy Act of 2928 |
Message | Well of course manners demand that the countries notify the Foreign Office. But the only response the Foreign Office can give is 'welcome'. After they establish, we create and maintain good relationships. |
Date | 16:25:57, April 30, 2010 CET | From | People's Party - Republican Democrats | To | Debating the Open and Independent Foreign Policy Act of 2928 |
Message | That is the point. The government cannot give any other response but 'welcome.' And the we have to 'create and maintain good relationships' even with the most undemocratic, unjust and corrupt regime, as we have given away any leverage tools that we might have. |
Date | 21:31:02, April 30, 2010 CET | From | Green Party of Aldegar | To | Debating the Open and Independent Foreign Policy Act of 2928 |
Message | Yea? We can still impose sanctions or whatever you like on those states. If they don't like it they can just recall their diplomats and close their embassies. Why do we have to put the bureaucratic burden on our side? |
Date | 09:42:09, May 01, 2010 CET | From | People's Party - Republican Democrats | To | Debating the Open and Independent Foreign Policy Act of 2928 |
Message | And why do we have to put the initiative for suspending diplomatic relations with the other states? We can't refuse them to open and embassy, and we can't expell their diplomats. While such a course of action is normally not desirable, it can be valuable in certain situations, and we have voluntarily given it up through this proposal. |

Message | We apologise for not elaborating clearly. What we aim to achieve through this proposal is to have a system where any nations are welcome to establish relationships (without the limits that alliances etc put)for the first time. Aldegar will still reserve the power to evict an embassy and forbid it to re-enter. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, it is the responsibility of players to ensure the candidate boxes on their Party Overview screens are filled in with appropriate names. If a player is allotted seats in a Cabinet bill and has not filled in names for the relevant candidate position, then the program will automatically fill in the positions with names which might not necessarily be appropriate for the Cultural Protocols. |
