Bill: Homosexuals and the Military Act 2929

Details

Submitted by[?]: Freedom Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2932

Description[?]:

The Freedom Party feels it is time to revise the legislation with regard to Homosexuals and the military.

Freedom feel that the current legislation which says that "Homosexuality is allowed in the military" makes very little sense from an operational point of view. We simply do not see how it improves the battlefield capabilities of our army to have homosexuality "allowed". In fact we could argue these unncessary sexual distractions may do harm to the cohesion of a unit and this is something Freedom cannot allow to happen to our military. These brave men and women are there to stop the enemy, and possibly pay the ultimate sacrifice while doing it, let us not turn the army into a social club where emotive short-sighted politics trumps reason and duty.

We therefore have no hesitation in recommending a reversion to previous legislation which read:

o Open homosexuality is not tolerated in the military. The military has a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

MessageThe Reform Party support this legislation as a marked improvement on current policy, but ultimately it does not go far enough. An outlaw on homosexuals in the military would be preferable. Even under the 'don't ask, don't tell' scheme, some homosexuals will inevitably be attracted to the military for the wrong reasons, and may cause an unnecessary distraction.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically
