Message | The Conservative-Libertarian Party would like to nominate Eric Powell MP once again for the position of Speaker. Eric Powell is MP for Bekenial South and was elected in the October 2922 election. Widely seen as being on the far right of the Party, Mr Powell is the only CLP MP who has argued for a Hutor-only state, and has advocated fewer rights for minorities. He would like to see a return to firm nationality and citizenship laws as well as greater immigration control. Mr Powell has been described as a loner by his party and his campaign for Bekenial South was fought with very few funds from central office. He courted controversy in 2926 by calling for a CLP-HNP coalition. He said: "No doubt I shall cause some controversy here, but, were it not for their absurd economic policies, I would be seriously calling for a demonstration of unity between the Conservative-Libertarian Party and our Nationalist friends. I call on them to move towards the centre ground on the economy, and together we can change the shape of our country for the better." Although he was reprimanded by his leader, he was returned with an increased majority at each of the subsequent elections. Mr Powell considered running for the leadership to replace Baroness Peters but felt that his efforts were better directed at the Speakership. He has promised that under his Speakership, Parliament would be a place for proper debate, where all parties would be obliged to answer points raised by other parties, so as to increase the effectiveness of the legislative process. |

Message | The Hutori National Party would like to see the CLP nomination Eric Powell win the race for the office of Speaker. We feel that his public sympathies for both the HNP and the CLP could broker better relations between our two parties. Many members of the HNP have wanted to persue an alliance with the CLP but ideological differences between the CLP and HNP hierarchy have always prevented such a deal being persued. Despite this the HNP feel that Mr Powell would be an ideal candidate for the position of Speaker and will support him in his challenge to win the position. |
