MessageMr Speaker, this Act would shorten the judicial process by a considerable margin. We would be able to detect all people at crime sites etc. This proposed system would not allow us to detect first-time offenders!

MessageMr Speaker, it is only very recently that we had this DNA database. Up until that point the criminal detection process worked extremely well, if not better. In fact, the existence of this database has led to shabby police work which does not investigate properly. Furthermore, Mr Speaker, DNA does not provide 100% proof, and can damage lives, families and careers if an individual is wrongly accused. Mr Speaker, the balance between liberty and security must be right, and the status quo is an unnecessary infringement of liberty without offering decent levels of security.
