MessageMarquess Louie Spence MP,

Mr Speaker, people should be allowed to obtain identity cards if they so choose. We do not want a compulsory system for everyone to have these cards but people should have the right to choose to have an ID card if they want.

MessageMr Speaker, it is an enormously expensive system that brings no benefit at all. In fact, the likelihood is that it increases identity fraud and puts individual data at more risk. Such a system does nothing to prevent terrorism or crime and there is no justification for it whatsoever. Mr Speaker, there are alternative forms of identity available such as passports or driving licences for when individuals need to prove their identity. Official ID Cards are irrelevant, unjustified, and a gross waste of money.
