Message | Mr Speaker, our worry with this proposal is that it will simply bring about "death panels". Juries will be summoned to pass judgement on whether an individual should be entitled to end their lives. The CLP is committed to trial by jury and think that, legally, the system must always be maintained. But on such personal decisions as ending one's life, the method will not do. It must be made between the patient and the person that knows their medical status the best - their own GP. Mr Speaker, this is a very sensitive issue and the people would not look well upon any enraged debate that took place on it. |
