Bill: National Sport Commission

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative-Libertarian Party (UM)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2949

Description[?]:

For some time now, our national sport has been Tchouckball. However, Tchouckball is played by relatively few people and the league is an elitist one. Tchouckball was founded by the Lusk family, and introduced as the national sport during the Luskite autocracy (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=261394). Since the fall of the Lusk autocracy, the continuing presence of this Luskite invention in the national arena has been overlooked. Now that the Lusks have left Hutori, along with their possessions and money, it is surely time to consider looking at what our national sport should be.

After discussion, the Commission would like to propose to the House of Parliament that Bekenball be adopted as the new national sport.

MessageRt Hon Duke McCullum, NSC Frontbencher,

I will represent the NSC in this debate. I would refer the gentlemen to the recent ratification and entry of Hutori into the Terran FIFA World Cup (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=292588) surely as this is the only sport Hutori activley participates on an international stage outside of the Olympics, it is an ideal sport for Hutori to has as its national sport. Football (soccer) is the common mans game and would appeal to far more people than the elitist game of Tchouckball. I am sure the Labour Party would maybe support us on this decision, given the idea to join the FIFA World Cup was their idea and the NSC ratified the Treaty.

MessageHon Sally Grantham, CLP Culture Spokesman:

Madam Speaker, simply because we have only recently entered into an international competition does not mean that football should become our national sport. The sport must have deep roots in this country and be played widely. Indeed, ideally, it should be a sport that was invented here. I have always felt that whilst the origins of football were local, it has become extremely expensive and remote and, in any case, Hutori cannot claim to have invented the sport.

Madam Speaker, the Conservative-Libertarian Party would like to propose that Bekenball become the new national sport. Rumoured to have been devised by John Bekenial himself, it is derived from the ancient Mashacaran game of Clakograta and is a cross between the international games of tennis and volleyball. Madam Speaker, as all members in this House will know, almost every village in Hutori has a Bekenball team and there are various notable premier league teams that attract the loyalty and devotion of their fans. I am pleased to say that my own team, Corktown United, won the league this season, beating my leader's favoured team of Sutton Island BC in the final.

Madam Speaker, whilst Bekenball does not attract a great international following, it was successfully exported back to Luthori, where it is played regularly, and every four years the Makonian Bekenball Championship sweeps the entire continent!

Madam Speaker, it is about time that we recognised this ancient game that was invented in this country, possibly by this country's founder. I know that every home in Hutori would be pleased by this announcement for, indeed, it could be argued that it has been our national sport in all but name for a long time now.

Madame Speaker, this is a wonderful Idea, Tchoukball is extremely outdated, and does not reprisent our nation. Bekenball is the most widely spread sport in Hutori, and we would support it becoming the national sport. Although football is widely played in Hutori, it does not reprisent our nation, we did not invent, and we are new in the international cup, it would be almost an insult to ourselves to declare it our national sporty. We support Bekenball Wholeheartedly.

MessageMadam Speaker, if Duke McCullum supports Bekenball as the new national sport then I believe that the Commission should propose this to the House of Parliament.

MessageRt Hon Duke McCullum, NSC Frontbencher,

Madam Speaker, given the overwhelming support for Bekenball, seeing as any treaty needs NSC approval to pass we are prepared to go along with the proposed. It is not our first choice, but our party is one of comprimise and we are prepared to accept this.
