Message | Rt Hon Eric Appleby MP, CLP Deputy Leader: Madam Speaker, perhaps this issue exemplifies more than any other the fact that the government has just taken on too much responsibility. The fact that a national government should be concerning itself with issues such as recycling shows how swollen the state has become. Madam Speaker, mundane issues such as this should be decided at a local level. How can the state possibly decide what is essential when it will vary from region to region? Madam Speaker, the state should not pursue a 'one size fits all' policy on these sorts of issues. There are better things to be spending taxpayers' money on. Madam Speaker, let local councils determine what is best for local people. Let us end this practice of government knows best. Madam Speaker, I am delighted that my honourable friend, Cheryl Macintosh, is pursuing this federalist agenda. It will transform the way that politics is done in this country. |

Message | Rt Hon Duke McCullum MP, NSC Frontbencher, Madam Speaker, do the CLP not feel they have invested too much hope in Federalism? Given that they are the only party that advocate it means even if they and their colleagues get into office they will not be able to introduce all this Federalist measures. The NSC always advocate strong central government and Labour are socialist and the SPU are communists. Do the CLP not realise their agenda is seriously flawed? |

Message | Madam Speaker, would the NSC rather that all parties introduced identical policies? |
