MessageMr Speaker, in a recent debate on treaty withdrawal, the NSC bemoaned the fact that parliamentary sovereignty had been diluted and infringed upon by recent treaty ratifications. I look forward to seeing them join us in campaigning for this withdrawal, which infringes upon a vital concern of many Hutorians.

MessageMr Speaker, due the NSC being one of the founding members of the LL, we cannot vote against our pledge to the organisation which is our duty to get this Treaty ratified. The best we can offer the CLP is to abstain.

MessageMr Speaker, we are astounded. We would completely understand the NSC's position had they not gone on a lengthy rant about the audacity of the Labour Party in ratifying a treaty enshrining the separation of church and state. Mr Speaker, they dare to accuse us of opportunism when it is the CLP that is consistent in its views on this matter. Mr Speaker, it is now clear that their position on the church/state treaty was nothing more than simple posturing and nothing to do with the sovereignty of this place. They shall only invoke parliamentary sovereignty when it best suits them.

Mr Speaker, the running of our economy is an issue, more than any other, that should be settled within the borders of this country and not by outside agencies. To impose a socialist ideology on a country that binds this parliament is scandalous and we are frankly surprised that the Labour Party and SPU would ratify a treaty that was partly composed by the SPU.

Mr Speaker, it is now clearer than ever before that only the CLP will stand up for the sovereignty of this realm and put the Hutorian people before any sort of socialist ideology. Mr Speaker, there is a leftist conspiracy afoot, and only one party in this country will refuse to be a part of such a thing.

MessageMr Speaker, will the CLP renounce their membership of the UM if they refuse co-operation with the 'left conspiracsts' the SPU and Labour?

MessageMr Speaker, the United Movement has nothing to do with left or right. The gentleman knows full well what the United Movement was founded on. It was founded on a rejection of the politics of hate and fear, the politics of race and division, and rejects the idea of an overmighty and overbearing state that oppresses the people. Mr Speaker, in short, it was founded on a rejection of parties akin to the NSC. Sovereignty was never an issue when forming the United Movement, nor was socialism versus capitalism. The United Movement, and members of the UM, have always been very clear about that. Mr Speaker, UM governments in the past have had parties such as the CLP that propose a libertarian economy working alongside parties such as the Labour Party or the NSP, that advocate socialist solutions. Mr Speaker, we believe that this LLIT is extremely disastrous for the country, but does not effect the issues focused on by the UM. Until UM members beging advocating the sorts of disgusting policies introduced by the NSC, then there is nothing contradictory about our membership of the UM whatsoever.

MessageMr Speaker, we ask the CLP then. Would they enter into a coalition with the SPU and Labour Party despite calling them conspiracists? I mean two left parties in coalition with a right wing party? Or are the CLP - now a small party - simply staying on good terms with the other UM parties because its their only real chance of Cabinet offices?

MessageMr Speaker, we look forward to seeing the NSC in the yes lobby to withdraw from this treaty which so infringes upon parliamentary sovereignty, which we know they care so much about.

MessageMr Speaker, it is now clear that the NSC's pretentions to believe in parliamentary sovereignty are false. If they believed in it, they would join us in the yes lobby.

MessageMr Speaker, we were one of the founding members of the LL - and pushed the writing of this Treaty! We cannot vote against it. We shall abstain and will the CLP shut up complaining because they already have 50% of the House voting yes.

MessageMr Speaker, I do not believe that it is our place in this House to "shut up". Yet again, we see the NSC arrogance of old and their distaste for parliamentary democracy and debate.

Mr Speaker, yes we have 50% of the vote and are glad about that. But could any member of this House imagine how the NSC would respond had the CLP not supported their proposal to withdraw from the church/state treaty? Mr Speaker, the NSC would go on for ages about the hypocrisy of the CLP, how we had abandoned our ideals and much more. Mr Speaker, we all know that the NSC would react in such a way. Throughout this debate, they have attempted to criticise the Labour Party and the SPU for being anti-democratic because they have supported a treaty that binds this parliament, and yet, simply because they have played a part in drafting this one, they cannot vote for its withdrawal. Mr Speaker, this is not even flip-flopping. This is a callous attempt to pick up the mantle of sovereignty when actually, there is just a cynical opportunism behind their motives.
