Bill: Food and Beverage Regulatory Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dream Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2982
Description[?]:
This is a bill designed to ensure a regulated labeling system on all food and beverages. We have strict rules in place for what is put ON a food's label, but as written, the law does not currently require an actual label. This strikes the Dream Party as a dumb oversight, one that can be easily corrected. As a rider, we are abolishing the need to label genetically modified ingredients, because science does not work that way. |

Message | We can be convinced to remove the rider to this bill, assuming that it is a deal-breaker for some party still considering the meat of the issue---the requirement to label all food and beverages. |

Message | I completely support the first article of this bill - clear, compulsory food labeling is, really, common sense and important for food safety. I do not understand your second article which reduces regulations on labeling by allowing companies to leave out GM ingredients. What on Earth do you mean by 'we are abolishing the need to label genetically modified ingredients, because science does not work that way.' ? |

Message | I mean that there's no scientific evidence to suggest that genetically modified foods are at all dangerous. And there's really no reason to assume they are, aside from paranoia. |

Message | I would have thought that may people would want to know, anyway. I agree that GM foods appear to be safe, but taking away that knowledge from people does not seem a healthy thing to do. Some people will not want to eat GM foods for reasons other than weather they are simply harmful. Denying those people the ability to choose seems unwise. |

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections. |
