Message | Interesting and challenging bill for us. (Which is probably good because we have 0 seats). Articles 2 and 3 are things we strongly support, but 1 and 4 are more or less deal-breakers, as we do not believe in compulsory military service (at all. Let alone in peace) and we also think the worst industry to be made private is defense. |

Message | All the above changes will create havoc in the military! It will breakdown morale, and limit the armed forces' ability to fight effectively. Why should the arms industry be subsidized if it is private? The government is already purchasing the industry's weapons. Homosexuality will cause dissension in the military, and the current policy goes far in keeping out homosexuality's unwanted influence. Landmines are an important defensive tool, particularly along borders with unfriendly neighbors. A draft is only necessary in times of warfare. To force a draft on the populace at any other time than a national emergency will create a bloated bureaucracy and military. In short, the Tories will not vote for this bill. -Prime Minister Felipe de los Santos |

Message | I thank the Prime Minister for his response. This party believes that landmines are inhumane and are not justified as a weapon of war. The effects they leave years afterwards on civilians in those areas is all too well known. This is the core of the bill and this proposal cannot be altered. Would the Prime Minister care to explain why allowing homosexuals in the military would cause dissent? I take it he has some proof. Presumably he accepts that race and religion, all of which are allowed, do not cause dissent in the military, so why would preventing the military from banning homosexuals cause dissent? This does not make much sense. As for articles 1 and 4 we are prepared to amend or remove them for support of at least article 3. |

Message | The bill has been amended to include just one proposal - the banning of land mines. This is our central and most important proposal and we hope it will enjoy cross party support. |

Message | Would the leader of the Social Democratic party care to explain why they have voted against banning landmines? Do they not recognise the huge and deadly impact they can have on civilians living in the area for years to come? |

Message | Unwanted attention, sir, is what I was driving at in my opposition to the homosexuality clause in the bill. Unnecessary drama between soldiers breed bad morale. -de los Santos |
