Bill: Economic Migration Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Labour Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2142
Description[?]:
We must encourage economic migrants to Malivia, in order to supply our labour market. Itaki, the destination for many immigrants, has the 5th highest level of employment in the world and a growing demand for both skilled and unskilled labour: immigration not only provides cheap labour for our growing economy, but offers thousands of people the chance to live in such a wonderful country as Malivia. And who wouldn't want that? |

Old value:: Quotas are based on individual applicant's qualifications.

Date | 12:48:40, November 13, 2005 CET | From | Progressive Labour Party | To | Debating the Economic Migration Act |
Message | We agree that we should encourage economic migrants, but we are not sure about allowing everyone in, this may have a negative effect on the economy, if there is some middle ground on what has been proposed then we will support it, but in its current state we will not. |
Date | 16:46:47, November 13, 2005 CET | From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Economic Migration Act |
Message | We support all initiatives aimed at opening our borders. |
Date | 14:40:13, November 14, 2005 CET | From | Malivia Democratic Party | To | Debating the Economic Migration Act |
Message | No. If someone has a history of lawbreaking in another country, why would we want them here? |
Date | 16:09:39, November 14, 2005 CET | From | Protectorate Party | To | Debating the Economic Migration Act |
Message | Our nation should do everything in our power to attract new residents. Why are we prejudging people based on their actions under a different government? They may have broken laws for a number of reasons, they may be looking for a fresh start, or the laws they broke could have been unjust. We should be willing to accept anyone into our nation and only judge them on actions performed once they arrive not on their past. |
Date | 20:27:42, November 14, 2005 CET | From | United Labour Party | To | Debating the Economic Migration Act |
Message | We do not deport criminals from our borders like in the 19th century; so why should we deny people the right to live here because of a criminal record? Unless they pose a threat to national security, let 'em in! |

Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset. |
