Bill: Food Label Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socio-Democratic Union

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2141

Description[?]:

The SDU propose that a new label system is created for food products in Dolgaria. We have noticed that the current legislation does not offer to customers clear information enough, and we think it would be the wisest thing to do to change it.

MessageHey, SDU, are you putting Josef Stalin as your HoS candidate and Vladimir Lenin as your HoG candidate? It would suit your party's ideology very much...

MessageWe are not communists, if you want to know. The SDU defends progressive ideas, and we do consider that having detailled label is a good thing for the customers. And any capitalist should know that the customer is a very important individual.

And, honestly, I fail to understand how labeling food products is a communistic way...

MessageThis would cost too much money, and the benefits of passing this legislation do not outweigh the costs of implimenting it.

MessageToo much money ? State's expenses for that would be minimum, as it's up to the compagnies to label their products.

MessageYou put this up for a vote too late. It will reset to debate when the election happens (in about 3 hours).

MessageRegardless, now that it is back to a vote, This legislation would harm the companies more than anything else. And I do not mean actual monetary costs, I mean theoretical costs V benefits.

These actions will only harm the companies, by costing more money to them. The only benefits would be for the consumers, who do not need and do not care about this information anyways.

It is just pumping valuable money (not "The Man's") into a fruitless venture by the government. Moreso, as I said before, it harms business!

Your heart is in the right place SDU, but not worth the effort.

And by the way CPD, I put Josef Stalin as my "Internal Affairs" cabinet post.

MessageActually having full information on all food packaging does nothing more than produce a level playing field in the marketplace, which if anything is just about the most capitalist option available. Afterall, are food companies scared of a little healthy competition?

MessageThis isn't a preposterous bill. I'd've rather have seen it split up, but that's a seperate matter altogether.

MessageWho cares about the label ? Many ones ! I do care for example. Some people are suffering of sickness that can be activated by specific produce and having it labeled on the package is a way to avoid some tragic incident that may be very expensive to compagnies on the legal ground. Seriously, how much does it cost for a compagny to print ingredients' list on package ? A cent per package ? That is not a big deal in their budget.

MessageThat is the business's concern. THeoretically, if the business wants to avoid messy lawsuits by printing clear and consise labels, then they will pay the extra cost to do so.
In other words, If that is what the free market dictates, then companies will do so.

HOWEVER, to force companies to do so will hamper the free market. The ones that get plagued by lawsuits will either change or go out of business. THe ones that dont get plagued and dont change their labels have little-no need for change.

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context.
