Message | Mr. Speaker, We are pained by these savage cuts in public expenditure. Overseas aid should be increased, not decreased, as Dorvik is a wealthy enough country to afford to do more to alleviate suffering in the poorest parts of the world. The reduction in infrastructure spending will damage our economy in the long-run. And the cuts in health and education will hurt everybody, and hurt the poorest the most. So much for Green Socialism! |

Message | However, given the damage the GSP have already done to our public finances, we see little choice but to reluctantly support this proposal. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We are merely rebalancing Dorvik's economy, which was extremely unbalanced. The government has already had the support of one opposition party, the Lormish National Congress, in supporting the taxation reform which savagely decreased the poor's income. Low-income families are almost tax-free in comparison to the 40% that the CPU had supported previously. As a consequence, yes, we have had to make hard cuts, but only because previous administrations had failed to recognise the bizarre and unfair budget Dorvik had, and again, failed to act upon it. At least this government is actually taking steps to improve Dorvik, whether those effects are immediate or for the long run, this government has every Dorvish person at heart. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The GSP is unfair in alleging the previous income tax regime was unfair on the poor. Yes, we had a 40% flat rate of tax, but this tax rate only kicked in after quite a high income threshold was reached. You had to be earning over 14,000 DO before you even began to pay income tax. See: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=305046 If you look at the income distribution curves on the region pages, you'll see that the very poorest incomes range from around 11,000-13,000 DO, which meant the very poorest didn't pay any income tax at all. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Regardless, this proposal would make it easier for the lower social classes to get richer. |
