Bill: Government-issued identity card policy.

Details

Submitted by[?]: Education Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 3054

Description[?]:

National identification cards can be used to track an individual. In order for the national identification card to be usable by the government, a national database containing personal information would have to be created. This database is an invasion of privacy. However, if the government chooses not to create this database, then it will be too easy for individuals to commit fraud by having multiple cards with different identities.

MessageMr. Speaker,
This is absurd!
Obviously identity cards are to be used to track individuals, and know who they are. The national database is currently in place. It is not a 'invasion of privacy' it is protecting other people from drug dealers, and people who are simple criminals. While I ensure you, that not many, if not no one has multiple identity cards. It is simple to uncover and know by for example finger prints etc.
This would be incredibly irresponsible!

MessageMr. Speaker,

We are concerned about the civil liberties implications of having a compulsory national identity card system. A voluntary system would be preferable.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
