Bill: Anarch Anakrousite Shatter Reform Bill - Removal of Unjust Restraint (vii)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2142

Description[?]:

As part of our ongoing policy of reclaiming Likatonian Sovereignty:

The Anarch Anakrousite Shatter believes that the Likatonian Senate has been hasty. We have allowed ourselves to be deprived of sovereign Rights to self-govern - and bound ourselves to policies imposed by deskpilots in foreign powers.

The Anarch Anakrousite Shatter believes we should continue divesting ourselves of some of the excessively controlling Treaties that we have impetuously chained ourselves to.

"After all, if the Likatonian people WANT a curfew, it SHOULD be their right to demand one. If they DON'T want a curfew, the responsibility should STILL lie at the feet of the people, and our democratic system".

"We believe that we MUST remove ALL constricting Treaties - because the people MUST have the right to express their opinions, and MUST have the right to democratically decide their nation's sovereign future... If our people do NOT have the right to free speech when the material is unpalatable, then we can NOT claim that we TRULY have 'free' speech, at all".

MessageWe still oppose all these treaty withdrawals. Withdrawing from a treaty is not an act to be taken lightly, as it undermines the trust other nations have in us, a vital resource we need to resolve conflict and achieve common solutions to global challenges. A hostile nation would be unlikely to attempt to reach a peaceful settlement with us, if they thought we might later withdraw from our treaty obligations on a whim.
This treaty is particullarly important. How can we demand other nations treat our captured soldiers huamnely if we have not made this firm commitment to follow international standards in the treatment of POWs. We think the AAS is gambling our international reputation and the safety of our own soldiers with this reckless bill.

MessageQuestion to the Anarch Anakrousite Shatter. Are you proposing withdrawing from the treaty as part of a platform of withdrawing from treaties, or do you object to something specifically within this treaty?

MessageResponse to the Progressive Social Strength Party: There is nothing specifically within ANY of the Treaties that we have withdrawn from, or that are left to withdraw from, that makes the AAS wish to see us disconnected from the process -

Except, that we remove our sovereignty with EVERY Treaty we sign. In as much as - if, for example, one of the Likatonian Parties WANTS to introduce legislation on -say - hunting endangered animals - they CANNOT, if a Treaty Article forbids it. So - we as a nation do not get to decide that... we as the Senate do not get to decide it... we as the 'people' of Likatonia do not get to decide it.

As the AAS already said in another Bll - just because we remove ourselves from a Treaty... that doesn't mean we ENDORSE inhumane treatment of prisoners, or WANT to see endangered animals being hunted.

It just means that WE (Likatonia) should be ABLE to look at such legislation. Likatonian parties SHOULD be able to bring such legislation before the Senate (even if it gets overwhelmingly voted down), because that is the RIGHT and most FREE way to do it.

MessageResponse to the Representative Party: The Treaty is a formality. If you look at the Likatonian history of law, we have ALWAYS had a VERY positive attitude towards prisoners of war. So - what does the Treaty DO for us? It limits our democratic freedom to bring legislation about Prisoners of War (in this case), while NOT changing our fundamental stance.

Are we the ONLY nation withdrawing from Treaties? No - look back a few years in the World News, and you'll see a lot of other nations have felt the same loss-of-sovereignty over Treaties they, perhaps, signed to too quickly.

Will OUR soldiers still be treated well? One assumes so - since we do not affect how OTHER nations treat OUR soldiers, with this Treaty... only how we act - and then hope for the best from our neighbours?

Will OTHER soldiers still be treated well by US? Again, one asssumes so - because OUR law was already very positive towards P.O.W.s... long before Treaties bound us to it.

MessageA last point - to any party - the AAS is currently ONLY planning on removing us from Treaties that have BINDING Articles... i.e. Treaties that inhibit democracy, by NOT allowing laws to be suggested or made.

The AAS brought ALL these Treaties vefore the Senate, when we were in the Foreign Office... and now we feel that we are somewhat responsible for the fact that our sovereign ability to make law has been effectively roadblocked.
