Message | Rt Hon Rupert Finchley MP, Minister of Education and Culture Mr Speaker, though we cannot but agree with the first of these criterion, we do not accept the need to promote 'morality' in advertising. Will the Honourable member amend the bill (OOC: Through the medium of a debate addition changing the contents) to only include: Advertisement should meet basic standards. - advertisement should be truthful and not misleading. If he were to make this amendment, we would support the Conservative Party in this legislation. |

Message | Hon Toby Andrews MP, Conservative Party Leader, Mr Speaker, the Conservative Party is clear in its outlining of the Bill. Currently on a small amount of Hutorian television stations many are advertising the use of cannabis - seeing as it is currently legal. We see this as disraceful. That is immoral and we do not want our peoples turning into drug addicts and that is why we have proposed this Bill to put an end to practices of this nature. |

Message | Rt Hon Rupert Finchley MP, Minister of Education and Culture Mr Speaker, it is not the government's business to legislate morality, though the Honourable member may think so. If he wishes to argue against Cannabis, perhaps the Honourable member should start a campaign against the drug? This is what should normally done in a democratic society. If his campaign is successful, he perhaps may one day gain a mandate from the Hutorian people to ban Cannabis altogether. Until that day, Cannabis shall be legal and advertised on our televisions. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
