Bill: The Responsible Identity Card Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Labour Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 3074

Description[?]:

The current position that the government may issue identification cards on a voluntary basis is almost laughable. There are many routine tasks in the daily lives of Solentians that could be made easier if uniform ID cards were issued nationally.

Some tasks that would be made easier with uniform ID cards:

1. Voting and registering to vote
2. Registering automobiles and other large property acquisitions
3. Proving that statutory age limits for purchasing certain items are met
4. Receiving items that are held at will call or some other pickup location
5. Providing positive identity to police officers in the event that someone is stopped by police
6. Reinstating a positive sense of national identity

The cards would absolutely not be embedded with any sort of tracking or homing device designed to monitor any aspect of the lives of citizens, nor would citizens be required to carry them under penalty of lawbreaking.

MessageThis is simply a matter of common sense. Sometimes it is necessary to positively prove one's identity to safely and efficiently complete many tasks of everyday life.

This bill would not require Solentians to carry their ID cards, but would simply give them the option to. This bill will make business transactions smoother, keep tobacco and alcohol out of the hands of minors, give police more certainty in their decisions when questioning someone, and will help instill a greater sense of national identity.

This bill in no way infringes upon the civil liberties of the citizens, but empowers them throughout their daily lives.

Vote yes.
