MessageMr Speaker,

The only proposal that the Labour Party agrees with is proposal 2. How dare those capitalist rats try to snatch rights away from ordinary workers! How dare they! The Labour Party's core principal is worker's rights, we were founded by the workers for the workers and it is simply disgusting that they dare to take their rights away. What those clowns opposite me cannot get through their thick skulls is that striking is a form of protest and to even to take an inch of their legal freedoms away is simply a crackdown on democracy, this is just further proof that right wingers cannot be taken seriously

I yield

MessageMr. Speaker,

Surely those who provide jobs have some rights here, yes? This is balancing the rights of the worker against the rights of the employer.

Article 1 states that one must have a reasonable excuse before striking. This is a common-sense proposal. I fail to see how this is detrimental to the worker.

Article 3 preserves the right to strike for a vast majority of workers. The people who are exempted here are those who hold jobs crucial to public safety and security, such as police, firefighters, and medical personnel. Again, a common sense proposal that is not detrimental to the worker.

Article 4 mandates that the union hold a ballot of all members before striking, and that a majority agree to the strike. The union is here to represent the workers, not represent their own political interests. This is forcing the union to actually listen to their membership before striking.

Mr. Speaker, this is a well-founded, moderate bill. Perhaps it isn't acceptable due to the socialist ambitions of the party opposite, but I believe that if you were to present this bill directly to the people they would like it.

I yield.

MessageMr Speaker,

What these clown opposite me cannot get through their heads is that workers have a right to strike no matter if they're firefighters, lorry drivers, dustmen , teachers or whatever. Striking is a right and not a privilege. Mark my words Mr Speaker, if this crackdown on democracy gets through soon those fools will implement even more restrictions on striking, they are covering it up to seem its nothing major but soon enough, when they've brainwashed the public they will try to go one step further and ban striking altogether! We, in the Labour Party will not let them go unseen. We hope that the Christian Democratic Party realises that workers have rights and freedoms and as they have the balance of power, we hope they vote no.

I yield.
