Message | Mr. Speaker, We are concerned that abolishing price restrictions would allow energy companies to use their monopoly power to unfairly exploit consumers in order to swell their own profits. |

Message | -Press Release from the Volkspartei- Although we at the VP are completely for the free market, and encourage free enterprise and profiteering, we believe that to allow the market to go unregulated is naive in the belief that exploitation will not take place. Where somebody sees a way to get more profit, the need for that profit can overtake their sense of humanity. The State should keep an eye on the market to ensure all citizens have access to the services they need. |

Message | Indeed, profit will motivate the participants in the energy sector. However, the drive for profits will increase competition: energy is largely a commodity product, and therefore the only way to compete is on price. Ultimately, we expect energy prices to fall as a result of deregulation. |

Random quote: "The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve 'the common good.' It is true that capitalism does, if that catch-phrase has any meaning, but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification for capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man's rational nature, that it protects man's survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is justice." - Ayn Rand |
