Status[?]: passed

Voting deadline: October 3124
Description[?]:
Why is it that we must put down smokers as if they are bad people. They should have every right to light up where and when they want to. After all it is their lungs and they can ruin them if they want to. If others don't like it, they can leave or move away. Also how about the waterpipes like sisha, narghile, hookhah etc. They can only be smoked in a group and in social events, why should we get rid of those too? OOC: If you don't know what a sisha is. They are these big Middle Eastern pipes which you suck on and then blow out of it. It is not addictive as they don't have any nicotine in them. They actually are good in calming you down when you're angry and its a social thing too so you sit with friends and talk whilst smoking it at the same time. I should know as i have smoked it before, my friend is Egyptian and his parents run an Egyptian cafe and we have smoke it. its pretty fun and you can't get addicted to it. Also there are other customers there too drinking coffee or tea but they don't smoke and they don't mind me and others using the sisha as its normal and something they know they can put up with for a couple of minutes. |

Proposed: Smoking is legal everywhere, at the discretion of the property owner, and is legal in government-owned buildings.

Message | I don't see the problem with the current proposal. We are just saying their must a non smoking section for people who wish not to be with people smoking, due to the effects of second hand smoke. Were not saying you can't smoke here, just saying theirs the smoking section. It's out of respect for non-smokers. |

Message | Then they get segregated and maybe smokers want non smokers want to talk with each other. Did you read what I said OOC? The non smokers don't mind when I smoke the sisha in the Egyptian cafe. |

Message | So because of a few things they don't mind, were going to get rid of the law? |

Message | Yes, smokers aren't bad people and after a while you get used to it. We can't be so restrictive on their rights. |

Date | 10:00:56, May 21, 2011 CET | From | Labour Party | To | Debating the Acceptance of Smoking Act |
Message | It's not that bad, people need to get used to it and not breathe in it all the time. (OOC: I'm speaking from experience here, both primary and secondary smoke/ first and second hand smoking call it what you want) |
