| This bill aims to enforce mandatory immunizarion to all children in Aloria while giving parents the option not to have their children be vaccinated for religious or ideological reasons. Though we believe that the government should have a proactive role in helping children remain healthy, we should also give the parents the opportunity to decide whether or not their children should be vaccinated on the basis of their religion or their personal ideology. However, medical practitioners handling the delivery and care of the child have an obligation to inform the parents about the benefits of vaccination for their children in order for them to make an informed decision about it. Vaccines that will be covered under the mandatory immunization program shall include the vaccines for the following diseases: (1) Tuberculosis; (2) Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis; (3) Poliomyelitis; (4) Measles; (5) Mumps; (6) Rubella or German measles; (7) Hepatitis-B; (8) H. Influenza type B (HIB); and (9) Any other diseases as determined by the Ministry of Health and Social Services through a ministry memorandum. |
