The telecommunications industry features high barriers of entry, infrastructure and overhead pushing out smaller competitors and creating a handful of larger monopolistic corporations that are able to price-gauge consumers. The following proposal seeks to curb price-gauging: |

Current: Telephone lines are provided free of charge to all citizens.
Proposed: The state regulates the rates providers can charge for phone service.

Message | The only barriers to enter the market are that of government. Government licensing who can and cants open a phone service business and then regulations and taxes that cripple existing businesses. More government involvement will simply help current big companies maintain their monopolies because the government is crushing the competition for them. I will not allow us to do the dirty work of monopolies. We reject. |
