Bill: Balanced Budget & Stabilization Act of 3176

Details

Submitted by[?]: Federal Independent Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3177

Description[?]:

The Federal Independent Party proposes to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the Federal Republic of Solentia.

Solentia's population is not nearly as great as it once was and with the current budget, the government's spending is excessive and dramatic. The current budget is a prescription for a population of 600 million or more, now Solentia's population is 99 million. The budget in place accounted for roughly 24% of GDP, however it is now a gross figure surpassing that. This budget, while appearing to be a brutal slash, is actually a realization to meet the necessary changes to keep Solentia competitive.

MessageThis is an issue that must be confronted. We are willing to negotiate on these cuts and methods to balance the budget, but with national revenue only reaching $899 billion SOL this year even with tax increases, the cuts will be drastic, regardless.

MessageWhile the FRPP wouldn't like to see the national defence budget so low, we strongly agree with this proposal and give our support.-David McCann

MessageOOC: I have to say I feel this should be tackled as an OOC issue. I will support but I believe quite firmly that all players should agree to pass this budget oocly to prevent some of us having to oppose it & the population problem not being fixed.

MessageIf the cuts are due to the population size shouldn't the government support population increases?

Message"Population size is not a problem to be fixed, Mr. Murran, it is a social reality to be accepted. We ought to encourage nothing in the bedrooms of our citizens; only make budget provisions for the appropriate demographics."

Edward Spicer,
Secretary of State for Justice & Unionist Leader.

MessagePopulation size has a direct effect on the deficit. And the LUC thinks it is short sided to disregard this helpful option.

MessageOOC: I agree with the Unionists. This is quite simply a game mechanic we have no power over. I'm not sure how we as a community of players want to rationalize this loss of people (or even pretend as though it didn't happen), but it is simply a matter of fact that these cuts aren't unfair, they are just adjusting to Solentia losing over 500 million citizens-worth of tax revenue. As the population grows (hopefully the glitch isn't permanent), we can can begin to alter the budget as we see fit.

MessageWe appreciate the Senate's willingness to work cooperatively on this necessary alteration of the budget to meet reality's needs. Upon urging by the Duvalle Administration, voting shall be opened in order to close the titanic deficit. Future amendments to the budget and nation's finances can be made afterwards.

Once again, thanks to all who have given a helping hand in this integral matter. Today, Solentia remains united in overcoming its greatest peril.
