Bill: Federal Pensions

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Caucus

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3183

Description[?]:

The need for federally mandate pensions is simple. The elderly need to be taken care of and it can be done one of two ways. 1) By a society that created a safety net to do so, or 2) The elderly taken care of themselves. A public pension does the best of both. It has people take care of themselves by paying in their youth, with government guiding the service to make sure it's effective.

MessageThe United Liberal Caucus all wants to compromise. So the proposal has an optional private pension system so that more moderate and conservative parties could hopefully support the measure.

MessageThe right to a secure retirement and pension is a fundamental one for the middle and working class. Labour is strongly in favor of this legislation to ensure a social safety net for retired workers.

MessageWhat happens when someone does not save for retirement and healthcare and ends up in the hospital when they are elderly and not working?! The safety net will be forced to cover them in full. This way the government makes people save for the future. In a way it is government having people take care of THEMSELVES.

Message"Personal responsibility is not spoon-fed! If you force something upon someone- that is not taking responsibility; that is not helping themselves, that is not progress. If they end up in hosptial; they are paid for BY THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE that this party has backed and supported for the last 300 YEARS!"

MessageThen why not support the indivdual backing some of the cost, with the continued help of the National Health Service to protect them.
