Bill: Palace Coup

Details

Submitted by[?]: Jundakeem (Soldiers of Akeem)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 3194

Description[?]:

This morning units loyal to Crown Prince Ameen have stormed the Qasr al-Alam Royal Palace complex in Lehonti. After several houres of heavy gunbattles, which left 21 people dead and numerous injured, the forces loyal to Crown Prince Ameen managed to capture the palace complex. It is not known if H.M. the Grand Emir was at the palace complex when the assault begon, but government sources say Grand Emir Hassuf has currently been placed under house arrest.

After the assault Crown Prince Ameen said in a brief televised address: "I am not happy with what has happened, but it had to be done and I had to do it." Senior members of the ruling al-Majali family and senior military and government officials gathered in the capital, Lehonti, to pledge allegiance. It seems that the military, which holds large influence over the Kafuristans politics, does not oppose the palace coup.

Crown Prince Ameen, 30, the new Grand Emir, told an emergency cabinet meeting that circumstances which he did not explain had forced him "to take the reins of power in the country, thus replacing my father, who will remain the respected and beloved father of everyone".

It remains uncertain how stable the reign of the Grand Emir Ameen II will be as some parts of the Kafuri society, including parts of the army might still be loyal to the former Grand Emir.

Random quote: "To the youth of America, I say, beware of being trivialized by the commercial culture that tempts you daily. I hear you saying often that you're not turned on by politics. The lessons of history are clear and portentous. If you do not turn onto politics, politics will turn on you." - Ralph Nader
