Submitted by[?]: Likaton Fascist Front
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2148
Description[?]:
Recent events across the border in Lodamun and in Valruzia has prompted calls within the PSS electorates for increased security. Although the situation has not affected Likatonia directly, we would like to maintain the this state of affairs. PSS proposes the following reform, currently the police forces of Likatonia are separated from the military. In the current situation it is not too hard to see a time where this would become impractical and would require the military and the police force to co-operatively manage a crisis. PSS stresses this is a measure that will be withdrawn when the current situation in Lodamon is resolved. |

Message | The AAS is torn... we do not doubt the need for security, but we are not sure 'militarising' our police force is the answer. Current AAS thougth is that we must (currently) oppose this legislation. |

Message | we will support this provided the involvement of the military can only be authorised by the elected local or national government. |

Message | To the AAS/RP: please note that "military may be called in to help in serious emergencies" is something PSS interepretes as a measure to avert a national tragedy, ie a hurricane, widespread rioting, earthquake etc. The army is the largest singular organisation that is able to assist in these cases and haveing plans in place for police and the army to co-operate can only save lives in the long run. |

Message | The problem, from an AAS perspective, is that we are pro-pacifism... and bringing the army into the police force, at ANY point, must therefore be against our policy. There MAY be times when the AAS would support military intervention in domestic matters (although, in the entire history of the AAS/AAP, this has been ONE thing we have been consistent on)... but it would have to be a one-off thing, not something codified in law, as this would be. |

Message | The RLP supports this, as the military can be a valuable resource for assistance in the event of national emergencies. This is not a case of 'militarising' our police force, but allowing the police to call upon the military for assistance. The control of the situation remains in civillian hands. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, it is the responsibility of players to ensure the candidate boxes on their Party Overview screens are filled in with appropriate names. If a player is allotted seats in a Cabinet bill and has not filled in names for the relevant candidate position, then the program will automatically fill in the positions with names which might not necessarily be appropriate for the Cultural Protocols. |
