Bill: Legalizing Pornography

Details

Submitted by[?]: Togetherness Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 3237

Description[?]:

Pornography has been illegal in the "Democratic" People's Republic of Telamon for quite some time now.
We do not understand why, pornography isn't harmful in any way, but can in fact create new jobs and a whole new market. We call ourselves a democracy, a free country, but are we really so free if our beloved people aren't allowed to do such a simple thing as watching porn.

MessagePornography is an exploitative industry which makes people, and women in specific nothing more then objects. In order to keep our moral high ground as human beings, and in order to advance the struggle for womens emancipation pornography as such is forbidden. In other countries where pornography has been legalized you can see a significant increase in promiscuity as well, with as a result significant increases in STD's, sex at very youthfull ages and teenage pregnancy's.
In order to keep such a capitalist disease out of out country, we of the Communist Party oppose this bill.

MessageOf course the pornography has to be regulated. STD's should not spread through that business. The female should not be treated like object, but rather as an equal to the male in the pornography.
As for teenagers, if they want to have sex, let them have sex, we can't forbid them from having it. As long as both parts are enjoying it, we can't do anything about it. However, we can offer them protection, such as condoms and birth control, so that they can avoid STD's and unwanted teenage pregnancies.
We agree that greedy companies might want to exploit the actors of the pornography in order to earn more money, so to regulate the pornography, we suggest that companies producing pornography should be owned by the state. Also, a union for pornstars should be created, so that we can assure them that they get fair salaries and conditions while working.

MessageThere is a difference between tolerating teenagers having sex, and encouraging them to have sex. Which is exactly what this bill is doing. By making sex seem like getting some groceries from the store it makes the - insecure - teenagers think that it is something they have to do in order to belong.
Secondly making pornography which would always make man and women equal would be a tremendous task in itself and would require much more regulation then simply enforcing the ban on pornography. Additionally the exploitative aspects of the porn-industry arent so much in the salaries or even the working conditions. But in the act itself, selling your body for money. Making it nothing more then a commodity to be bought and sold like potato chips.

MessageWho said that the actors can't enjoy what they're doing?
Sex might be their passion, so why not let them work with it?
Also, having porn relieves a sexual tension, thus decreasing crimes such as rape.

MessageIf they enjoy having sex there is nothing barring them from having it. It is not the same as selling and buying human flesh as a commodity.
Porn creates sexual tension, it creates the need to have it and to comply. And from what i have witnessed in other countries even introduces sicker forms of 'sex' such as bestiality and S&M.

MessageBut isn't bestiality and other types of sex legal in Telamon?
Anyway, such sexual acts should definitely not be included in the government-owned porn. We should provide the people with basic porn (both gay and straight) in which none of the participants is descriminated.
As for the sexual tension, humans are born with it. It comes with puberty and basically stays for the rest of your life. Porn lets people let out their sexual tension, instead of opressing it until they are forced to relieve themselves (often on other people)...

MessageOOC: no bestiality is illegal ;).
The first point would be fair enough, but our position on humans becoming nothing more then commodity's in the pornographic industry stands, and we will therefore oppose such legislation.
Also, i do not see how watching other people fornicate would lead to a decrease of sexual tensions, quite the opposite.

The European Union recognizes any significant reduction in CO2 emissions by the United States will significantly reduce its economic output, thereby bringing it closer to the inferior output of European nations. Environmental advocacy groups work to stifle economic and industrial progress wherever they find it to inhibit the successful advancement of peoples in developing nations, inevitably making mankind a second class citizen of planet Earth." - Dr. Jay Lehr
