Bill: Land Distribution Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Solentian Socialist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2147

Description[?]:

This will restore to local authorities responsibility for their local farming policies, aided by having control over finances. Agriculture is an immensely important industry for any nation, and an ineffective distribution of land EITHER WAY can be bad for local economies. Too many small unproductive farms can be just as harmful as a having access to only a few local producers, allowing them to seize hold of a market. Equitable service in the agricultural sector is vital, but it cannot be provided by central government - the SSP believes this is a local issue, and that local authorities are best placed to decide. Therefore, we ask you to vote for the Land Distribution Act.

MessageWe believe we should not grant an excess of power to local rule concerning article 2.

MessageAgriculture is vital to the well being of the Solentian Republic; it is therefore necessary and appropriate for democratically elected local authorities to have regulatory and budgetary powers over farmland. Private property should not be sacrosanct when we are discussing the public interest.

The people of Solentia clearly support the devolution of powers, and the SSP protests the decision of the NS, CFAAP, OFP and SGJP to strangle an initiative aimed at giving power back to local communities. In our Party's view, it is an excess of power, on Parliament's part, to further centralise political authority!

MessageActually, strike that last comment. The SSP would like to apologise to our fellow Parties for not allowing sufficient time to debate this proposal - it was a sloppy move, one we have thus far avoided when proposing new legislation, and entirely accidental.

MessageAlso, may we ask why the other political parties voted against this proposal?

If you were also mainly concerned with Article 2, would you reconsider your vote if the reform to subsidy policy found in this bill was resubmitted as a stand-alone Local Budgetary Initiative?

Random fact: It is the collective responsibility of the players in a nation to ensure all currently binding RP laws are clearly outlined in an OOC reference bill in the "Bills under debate" section of the nation page. Confusion should not be created by displaying only some of the current RP laws or displaying RP laws which are no longer current.
