Bill: New Deal on Education
Details
Submitted by[?]: Solentian Socialist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2148
Description[?]:
Charter schools - The SSP does not find it ethical that Solentian schools could be run on a for-profit basis, even those with Charter status. The New Deal on Education would ensure that independent schools would have to be "non-profit and have a specific focus", thereby ensuring they deliver a good service to the public and with no ulterior motives. School attendance - The SSP believes the education system must be responsive to children's needs, or it will fail those children. While education should be compulsory, attending an actual school itself is not always in the best interests of a student. Therefore, we propose allowing home schooling as an alternative to formal attendance. |

Message | i am in support of both these article 1. for article 2, i would prefer that home schooling be regulated, so that the students would obtain the same levels of education. While i am generally against home schooling, i recognise that there may be some circumstances, where it should be permitted, and would like there to be a sufficient reason for home schooling, which must be cleared by a regulatory body... HOwever, i will support... |

Message | The SSP agrees with the comments made by the CFAAP on this issue. Unfortunately, there is no option available for the inclusion of regulatory provisions! Otherwise we would certainly have chosen it. |
Date | 07:27:01, November 29, 2005 CET | From | United Centrists | To | Debating the New Deal on Education |
Message | We can support both articles, and also agree with the wish that there was an option to regulate home schooling. |
Date | 14:40:54, November 29, 2005 CET | From | Solentian Socialist Party | To | Debating the New Deal on Education |
Message | As the UC and CFAAP are usually an effective gauge of opinion, the SSP shall move this to a vote. |
